Our Complete Guide to Youtube Kids
What is Youtube Kids?
YouTube Kids is intended for children under 13 and is a safer alternative than YouTube, offering parents the ability to restrict content and set time limits. Children can explore the world through online video– from favorite shows and music, to learning how to build a model volcano or make slime.
Key Features

Kidsafe Content
Just as on Youtube, Youtube Kids offers a wide range of appealing content from Sesame Street to the most popular YouTubers. The intention behind Youtube KIDS is to offer parents and children kidsafe content.

Parental Controls
Parents can set time limits as well as tightly manage what content their children can watch.

Individual User Profiles
Often younger children share devices with their siblings. Now parents can create password protected profiles for each of their children to ensure that they’re watching age appropriate content.

Curated Content
Youtube has created a series of channels with trusted partners (e.g. Sesame Street) and has a team dedicated to approving age-appropriate content.

What Parents Should Know
In the Fall of 2017, YouTube came under serious scrutiny for disturbing content found on YouTube Kids. In response to heavy criticism, YouTube made some significant changes, giving parents more control over what their kids watch. While YouTube Kids is more restrictive (no one can upload videos), there are still millions of videos that were migrated over from YouTube, so the appropriateness of the content is not guaranteed.
YouTube Kids makes it possible for parents to limit the content their kids watch by setting individual child profiles, restricting content and locking those settings with a parental pin code. Parents can also set time limits.
Parents decide which content they want to allow by selecting one of the following categories:
a) Younger Content Settings: intended for children under 8
b) Older Content: intended for children ages 8-12
c) Approved Content Only – a parent can handpick videos, channels and collection
A parent can further restrict content by disabling the Search function which also turns off the Recommended and Watch Again options (it’s automatically disabled for Approved Content Only).
