Why Does This Keep Happening?

Dear Friends,

Clearly, there is a resounding chord that continues to strike a nerve deeply at our core. Every few months or so another post goes viral on the same subject. From Women Aren’t Nags, We’re Just Fed Up to Dear Husband, I. Need. More. Help., women are sharing collectively in the challenges of caring for house and home, kids, a husband, and the family pet, while also attempting to maintain some semblance of self-identity and sanity.

There are many aspects to motherhood and running the ‘Family Business’ that are surprising, starting with sleep deprivation. While we may not be ready to ‘Bill the Patriarchy’ as this woman has started doing, I do think it’s time to focus on realistic solutions and make running the ‘Family Business’ a part of our national conversation.

In building a platform, Heard It From a Friend aims to foster collaboration around best practices that will help to make all of our lives easier!

With best wishes,

Women Aren’t Nags, We’re Just Fed Up – A toast to Gemma Hartley whose viral status went from runny nose to major epidemic. Her two articles swept the Internet reaching more than 1.5 million people. She gives voice to what it feels like to be the manager of the household and always in charge.

Dear Husband, I. Need. More. Help. In her letter, Celeste Erlach writes, “I wish I could do it all and make it look effortless. And I wish I didn’t need kudos for doing things most people expect from a mom. But I’m waving a white flag…and if I keep going at the pace I’ve been on, I will break.”

No. I Will Not Bake a Dozen Cookies.  Darlene Weir laments, “Why is it that ‘participation’ has become a life sentence down the snack sign-up rabbit hole? When…HOW did this happen? I GET that ‘it takes a village,’ but WHY is the village trying to build the Taj Mahal with 9 year-olds and their moms? PLEASE, please do not ask me for a dozen cookies.”
